This is the annotations page. Here, I uncover the creative process behind all three of my outputs, discussing in detail the meaning behind them and how I managed to create my final results.

Despite the casual style and tangents in the piece, I wanted to focus on the aspect of hackney that appeals to me the most and narrow this output to fashion and individuality. This element really struck out to me while I was visiting the borough, so I knew I wanted to incorporate it into at least one of my three outputs and thought it fit nicely with this writing style.
CREATIVE WRITING –
This photograph I shot while wandering the streets of Hackney served as the inspiration for this piece of creative writing. The hackney road sign is clearly visible, placed on the brick walls of apartment buildings. I considered this to be a smart foundation or base for my narrative as I considered how to develop a piece that is unique yet still relevant to hackney. For e2, I wanted to attempt something different and write in a more personal/informal manner rather than the approach I took for e1 where I played around with a mix of screenplay and poetry.

I manually synced the images and text to the beat of the song (Sainte (2021) “Hunnids.” Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lZ0odP46pA (Accessed: January 26, 2023). This was done by playing the song and adding ‘markers’ (green arrows) whenever a beat played in the song. Hunnids is very fast tempo so I thought it would fit this editing style nicely. Sainte, the artist of the song, is also London born and raised so I incorporated him to also fit the my London theme.
Here is a closer look behind the editing process of the video.
VIDEO –
The difference and similarities between lens perspectives are shown in this piece. I provide both iPhone and film photographs of the same subject taken in and around the Hackney streets I visited. Graffiti is scattered all around the borough, and in my opinion, I’d say it plays a significant role in how community and togetherness are expressed by people through art. I stuck with the same topic as e1, which was the graffiti in the area, but I pushed myself to better the editing this time around because the prior time I just filmed a few videos and added some music. Here is a more refined version of my e1, which incorporates the art of hackney through both editing and photography.

I visited the LCC sound room and picked up how to use the equipment. This made it possible for me to create a podcast that is of high quality sound which is far different from what I was able to create with e1. I recorded on my phone using voice memos for e1, so I made the decision to improve my skills by using special equipment to achieve a better result. We seemed to be talking for a while, but the brief only allows for 60 to 90 seconds, so I did my best to seamlessly chop out irrelevant dialogue using Premiere Pro.
AUDIO –
I opt for a podcast in e2 as opposed to the more planned technique of talking into the microphone. Hackney is home to numerous underground artists and treasures and has a thriving music scene. This is the reason I mentioned it, since it fits in nicely with the borough’s identity and everyone appreciates recommendations for talented musicians playing nearby.

If I were to do anything differently for this project, I would definitely spend more time experimenting with the composition of my elements page. I hope that my annotations effectively communicate the creative process that went into creating my three different outputs. Overall, I’m pleased with how my blog turned out. I overcame multiple challenges in my attempt to navigate the website, but I eventually succeeded. I believe that my home page has strong ties to my borough, and I’m satisfied with the improvements I made and the skills I learned from e2.
